What are enzymes?

Zypan contains important digestive enzymes to support healthy gastrointestinal function. The word “enzyme” comes from Greek words that mean in yeast. Enzymes were given this name when they were discovered while scientists were studying the process of fermentation. Enzymes help sustain life. Almost every chemical reaction that takes place in all living cells of plants, animals, humans, and even of some bacteria begins by the stimulation of some specific enzyme. Enzymes are catalysts, meaning they speed up chemical reactions without changing themselves. They are the catalysts that set off multitudes of specific activities and processes throughout the human body. While hundreds of different enzymes have been discovered to date, each enzyme performs a singular function. Although the enzymes are each responsible for initiating a process that only that particular enzyme can accomplish, they are related to one another enough to allow classification into one of six categories. Undigested proteins cause many more problems than fats, carbs and sugars.

Why Zypan is so important?

Zypan is best product for improving protein digestion. It contains Pancreatin, Pepsin and Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) and also, ammonium chloride. The ammonium chloride acidifies the patient. The pancreatin contains enzymes, particularly trypsin. The biggest clue of a need for Zypan is intestinal gas. Gas- forming microorganisms can only exist in an alkaline GI tract. The bowel should never be alkaline. In a healthy person, it will always be slight acid. The job of the digestive system is to break down food—proteins, fats, and carbohydrates—into smaller compounds to support the building and nourishing of cells and to provide energy. This process requires enzymatic support from many glands and organs including the stomach and the pancreas. In the absence of thorough digestion and enzymatic action, the cells in our bodies will fail to get all the nutrients provided by the foods we eat. Many people require extra enzymatic support to help them properly digest food.

Zypan can help. It is a unique digestive supplement that mimics the phases of healthy digestion. A person who lacks hydrochloric acid and pepsin, does not digest his food. Instead of being digested, his food rots, creating gas and an organic acid which starts to erode his stomach. Most people talk about the ulcer or GERD patient having too much acid. The acid that he has too much of is the acid produced by this rotting food. If it is protein that is rotting, the process is called putrefaction. If carbohydrate is rotting, the process is called fermentation. If fat is rotting it is called rancification. If the patient had hydrochloric acid and pepsin in his stomach he would not have this acid of fermentation or putrefaction. In other words, if he digested his food, it wouldn't rot. The usual approach, if a person has this acid of putrefaction or fermentation in his stomach, is to take an antacid. This gives temporary relief, but makes the situation worse than before. The antacid is the wrong biochemistry, as it neutralizes one of the most important of all bodily secretions, hydrochloric acid. Not only does the antacid neutralize the acid of putrefaction, it also neutralizes the person's digestive acid. So the next time he eats he has even less digestive acid than before, and the problem becomes worse. It's a vicious circle that often leads to stomach or duodenal ulcers. So what the ulcer or GERD patient really needs is digestive support, such as Zypan. And of course to stop taking his antacid. He should take the Zypan in the middle of his meal so the hydrochloric acid in the product will be less likely to irritate his ulcer.

Zypan provides pepsin and HCL to aid the digestive process. Pepsin, the important peptic enzyme of the stomach, is most active at a pH of 2 or 3 [extremely acid] and is completely inactive at a pH above approximately 5 (an antacid can easily raise pH to 6 or higher]. Consequently, for this enzyme to cause any digestive action on protein, the stomach juices must be acidic … HCL is secreted by the parietal cells at a pH of about 0.8, but by the time it is mixed with the stomach contents and with the secretions from the glandular cells of the stomach the pH ranges around 2 to 3, a highly favorable range of acidity for pepsin activity. Pepsin is capable of digesting essentially all the different types of proteins in the diet. One of the important features of pepsin digestion is its ability to digest collagen that is affected little by other digestive enzymes. Collagen is a major constituent of the intercellular connective tissue of meats, and for the digestive enzymes of the digestive tract to penetrate meats and digest the cellular proteins; it is first necessary that the collagen fibers be digested. Consequently, in persons lacking peptic activity in the stomach, the ingested meats are less well penetrated by the digestive enzymes and, therefore, may be poorly digested.
